Action
Des Moines for Darfur is a diverse group of passionate people trying to make a difference for one of the world's worst humanitarian crisis of our time.
Des Moines for Darfur members meet when various community action events are created, which is usually every other month. If you would like to be apart of these initiatives or receive our newsletters outlining these events, please sign-up to be on the e-mail list.
If you aren't able to make our action events but still want to help the crisis, commit to any number of the following activities:
• Speak about the situation to your friends, family members, and colleagues - we must use our voices to speak for those who cannot.
• Call the President (202) 456-1111 and ask him to appoint a well-respected, high-profile representative who will coordinate U.S. policy on Darfur and exert sustained diplomatic pressure on all parties to abide by their commitments.
• Regularly contact the leaders of our State and Nation to make it known to them that this is an important issue to their constituents - make your opinion known! E-mail, write or call our Senators, Congressmen, and President. Here are some sample letters.
• Write a letter to the Editor of your newspaper.
• Volunteer at Refugee Cooperative Services to directly help refugees living in our community. Contact the RCS Center at: (515) 271-7411
• Donate any number of gently used household items, kitchen supplies, furniture, toiletries, children and baby supplies, etc. for the refugees. Again, contact the RCS Center at: (515) 271-7411
• Frequently visit this website to learn about upcoming events and activities.
